WHITE PLAINS, NY (November 2017) – Ginsburg Development Companies (GDC), the area’s leading developer of resort-style rental apartments, joined with White Plains officials to unveil the newly renovated lobby and sculpture at The Metro, a residential rental property in downtown White Plains.

Located at 34 South Lexington Avenue just a short walk to the White Plains Metro-North train station, the 124-unit, 12-story building was purchased by GDC earlier this year and rebranded as The Metro. As part of the rebranding of the property, GDC is making significant upgrades to the building starting with the new lobby.

The renovated lobby features new furniture, wall tiles, lighting and artwork – as well as a new entrance canopy on the building’s exterior. The lobby also features a modern sculpture by Rockland County artist Eric David Laxman whose works are displayed in public spaces throughout the Hudson Valley including many of GDC’s projects such as Harbor Square in Ossining and River Tides at Greystone in Yonkers. More than $100,000 was invested in the lobby renovations.

Over the course of the next year, GDC will continue to improve and upgrade the various amenities, including the club lounge, business center and roof deck. Other amenities include concierge service; Starbucks coffee station; state-of-the-art fitness center and outdoor patio sundeck. Beginning December 1, GDC will handle property management of the building. And like all GDC rentals, The Metro is pet friendly and smoke free.

“We are thrilled to unveil our newly renovated lobby at The Metro featuring a first-class sculpture created by Eric David Laxman whose magnificent works grace many of our residential developments. Public art is more than just a decorative feature. It creates a sense of place for our residential communities and enhances the quality of life of our residents,” said Martin Ginsburg, Principal of GDC, speaking at the grand opening held November 27. “We are very pleased with our first entry into downtown White Plains and look forward to expanding our presence in this important urban market in the future,” he added. Attending the event was White Plains Mayor Tom Roach.

The 7-foot tall sculpture called Bird of Paradise is created from steel, bronze and stainless steel. According to the artist, the sculpture is intended to evoke a bird in flight, ascending gracefully and defying gravity. “The form is also inspired by the organic, elegant curves of the Bird of Paradise Flower. It suggests growth, vitality and the life force,” said Laxman.

The Metro, which is GDC’s first luxury rental property in downtown White Plains, is the company’s fourth transit oriented development in Westchester County. Others include Harbor Square in Ossining, River Tides at Greystone in Yonkers and [email protected] in Yonkers.

The Metro’s studio, 1- and 2-bedroom apartments feature designer kitchens with espresso cabinets, and granite countertops and stainless steel appliances; large windows with wood blinds; wood floors in living areas with premium carpet in bedrooms; porcelain tiled showers and baths and balconies in select apartments.

“We are excited to reach this milestone event which signals that this great new addition to the Greystone neighborhood is rapidly nearing completion. Together with River Tides, 1177 will firmly establish the Greystone area of Yonkers as one of the prime luxury apartment living destinations in Westchester County,” said GDC Principal Martin Ginsburg.

[email protected] can now be added to the growing list of transit-oriented developments that are part of the great revitalization efforts we see here along the Yonkers waterfront,” said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. “Developers like Ginsburg have the vision to repurpose deteriorating properties into resort-style homes and reclaim our beautiful Hudson River views.”

[email protected] is the latest luxury rental development by GDC in the Hudson Valley corridor. GDC recently completed the first of two towers at River Tides at Greystone, a 330-unit luxury rental located one block south of [email protected]. Other completed GDC projects include Harbor Square in Ossining, The Lofts on Saw Mill River in Hastings-on-Hudson and Harbors-at-Haverstraw in Rockland County.

GDC is currently developing two major projects in Peekskill — Fort Hill Apartments at the Abbey Inn, a $64.5 million mixed-use project that will transform the former St. Mary’s convent property into a resort-style tourist destination featuring luxury rentals apartments as well as a spa, inn and restaurant; and Gateway Townhomes, a new development on Main Street at the gateway to Peekskill featuring 16 rowhouse townhome-style condominiums.

Earlier this year, GDC purchased a 124-unit, 12-story luxury rental building near the White Plains Metro-North Train station. The property has been rebranded as The Metro and is undergoing renovations including a new lobby.

Located at 700 Main Street at the gateway to the city from Route 9, Gateway Townhomes features 16 rowhouse townhome-style condominiums with a selection of triplex two- and three-bedroom homes ranging in size from 1,649 square feet to 1,915 square feet. The City of Peekskill asked GDC to develop the former municipally-owned site as a for-sale homeownership project when GDC began the approval process for its Fort Hill Apartments luxury rental community located nearby.

“We recognized the importance of this site as a gateway to the City of Peekskill and its downtown and was happy to make this neighborhood townhome development part of our holistic commitment and investment in the city,” said Ginsburg. “We are pleased to offer GDC quality townhomes at prices that are very reasonable for new construction condominiums in Westchester County, ideal for both first-time homebuyers and empty-nesters looking to downsize who want to enjoy the convenience of downtown living,” he added.

“Thanks to Ginsburg Development Companies and everyone who has made this project a reality” said County Executive Robert P. Astorino. “The continued revitalization of Peekskill and developments like these being built all over Westchester proves over and over again that our county is a top tier location to live, work, go to school, and raise a family.”

“I cannot express my joy and excitement at the commencement of this project. It represents the first new construction in this area of Main Street in over 65 years. We thank Martin Ginsburg and the Ginsburg Development Corp. for staying in Peekskill and accepting this challenging project. He is a true visionary who is changing the face of Peekskill forever and we thank him,” said Peekskill Mayor Frank Catalina.
